Cross-cutting themes

Examples of how this intervention links to the cross-cutting themes

Digital and gig economies

  • WBL has also been adapted and applied in the digital and gig economy. PROSPECTS Ethiopia worked with digital employers within the Addis Ababa IT Park to design WBL that filled technical skills gaps in Python, Java, big data and machine learning, integrated with modules on core life stills like communication, time management and accountability. PROSPECTS Kenya also worked with the Federation of Kenyan Employers (FKE) to design a digital apprenticeship programme.

Youth engagement

  • Uganda piloted a national apprenticeship scheme in the hotel sector, developing capacity within the relevant ministry and training institutes, and creating a model for replication. Participants were predominantly youth, who has limited labour market experience.
  • In Ethiopia, Iraq and Kenya, WBL is integrated into TVET courses to target young people as students, therefore engaging with them in educational settings.
